Er is woensdagmorgen 23 juni 2021 een grote brand uitgebroken aan de Baanhoekweg. Het vuur woedt op het terrein van afvalverwerker HVC. De brand is uitgebroken in een koeltoren. Vooral bij aanvang van de brand kwamen gitzwarte rookwolken vrij, die vanuit Sliedrecht goed te zien waren.

De brand wordt bestreden door de bedrijfsbrandweer van HVC en de Brandweer Dordrecht. Er trok een flinke rookwolk over Dordrecht. Bewoners is geadviseerd ramen en deuren te sluiten en mechanische ventilatie uit te schakelen. Na het middaguur was de brand onder controle en was de brandweer nog bezig met nablussen.
